Quentin Halys vs Christopher O’Connell prediction

Quentin Halys arrives in Chengdu on a dreadful eight-match losing streak.

The Frenchman had been enjoying the best spell of his career, breaking into the top 40 and reaching a career-high at the end of June.

However, it has all gone pear-shaped since and he now sits at 75 in the rankings.

His next opponent Chris O’Connell has just dropped outside the top 100 despite reaching the last four at the Guangzhou Huangpu Challenger.

The Aussie had ended his own five-match winless run with a strong push at the Canada Masters and did win his only previous meeting with Halys by a 7-6 7-6 scoreline in Dubai qualifying two years ago.

This is likely to be a similar grind and the smarter money is probably on it going three, although it depends on how shot Halys’ confidence is at present, in which case O'Connell is the more obvious pick.
