Qinwen Zheng vs Sloane Stephens prediction
Qinwen Zheng competed in only her second tournament since returning from injury at Indian Wells, but it was short-lived for the 2024 Olympic champion as she lost to Antonia Ruzic in straight sets. The Chinese player was out for several months as a result of an elbow issue which required surgery, and she is taking her time in terms of making a full comeback to the tour.
She faces Sloane Stephens in Miami. The 2017 US Open champion ended a three-match losing run after getting past Jennifer Brady in straight sets. Stephens wasn’t broken on serve as she saved all six break points on offer, winning 6-4 6-2 after one hour and 24 minutes.
Zheng leads the head-to-head 2-0 after two wins at Charleston and Wimbledon in 2022, but this will be their first match on a hard court. Stephens performed well in the first-round, but it’s a tough ask for her to get past a tough opponent in Zheng, even if she is still returning.
