Polina Kudermetova recovered from a poor start to get past Maddison Inglis in straight sets. It was not all plain sailing for the Russian as she fell 5-2 down after being broken on three straight occasions. Nevertheless, she fought back to reel off five straight games and take the first set. Sofia Kenin is her opponent in the second-round as the American received a bye in the first-round. He average campaign continued in Seoul as she could only make round two, with Maya Joint defeating the 26-year-old 6-3 6-1. She has also lost five of her last six matches, and hasn't won consecutive matches at a tournament since Roland Garros in May.

Despite her struggles, this is a match Kenin should be winning, and she is still decent value to come through in straight sets.
