Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Benjamin Bonzi prediction
Pierre-Hugues Herbert has been handed a wildcard for his home slam. A prolific doubles player, he has completed the Career Grand Slam of titles partnered with Nicolas Mahut. In terms of singles, he has reached the third-round here in 2018 and reached a highest ranking of 39 but is currently outside the top 180. Nevertheless, he has reached two Challenger finals this season and won an event in Cherbourg.
Herbert has competed in the doubles with Benjamin Bonzi but they compete against each other here. Bonzi’s best run in recent times saw him make the third-round in Madird but he was forced to retire against world number four Taylor Fritz with the score at one set apiece. The injury flared up again which curtailed Bonzi’s chances of competing in the Italian Open.
Bonzi leads the head-to-head 1-0 on the main tour, while he has also won four other Challenger level matches against Herbert with all of them taking place within a year of each other. As long as his injury concerns are behind him, Bonzi, who is ranked over 100 places higher than Herbert, should come out on top.
