Peyton Stearns made it through to the next round in Miami after getting past Vikorija Golubic in straight sets. The first set was a tight affair and went all the way to a tiebreak, with Stearns saving a set point and reeling off the last three points in total to edge ahead. Stearns was able to break twice in the second as she claimed a 7-6 (6) 6-4 win. She already has a title to her name this season, having won the ATX Open last month.
She now faces Jaqueline Cristian, who received a bye in the first-round. The Romanian came from a set down in her opening two matches at Indian Wells to beat Janice Tjen and Maya Joint respectively. She was then handed a tough third-round assignment against Aryna Sabalenka, losing in straight sets despite being very competitive in the first.
Stearns has found form in recent weeks and could trouble Cristian if she is aggressive from the start. Nevertheless, the Romanian can also threaten with her first-strike brand of tennis.
