Pedro Martinez vs Hubert Hurkacz prediction
Pedro Martinez made it through to the second-round with a 6-4 6-2 win over Mattia Bellucci. This was a much-needed victory for the Spaniard after three losses from his previous four games. He now takes on Hubert Hurkacz.
Hurkacz has struggled with injury this season, leading him to play just one clay court event over the past month. A lower back issue forced him to withdraw from Miami and then Monte-Carlo, while he opted not to play in the BMW Open in Munich. He made his return in Madrid but lost in the second-round after receiving a bye as a seed. The Pole was mostly uncompetitive as he fell to a 6-4 7-5 defeat to Benjamin Bonzi.
Hurkacz dominates the head-to-head, leading 3-0 and 2-0 on clay. The former Miami Open champion defeated Martinez in three sets in Monte-Carlo three years ago and also beat the Spaniard in the final of the Estoril Open last year.
Hurkacz’s match fitness will be an issue, having completed just one match in the past month, but he has a fine record against Martinez and should still make it through. We’re backing him to win in three sets.
