Paris Saint-Germain preview: Defending treble winners

Luis Enrique and his Paris Saint-Germain side managed to win the treble last season, but have had to start this year slowly due to the FIFA Club World Cup – and yet the Parisiens have remained impressively strong across all competitions.

They managed to snatch the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur before slender victories against Nantes and Angers. They then went into the international break on the back of a thrilling 6-3 victory over Toulouse, away from home.

Lens preview: Steady improvement

Over the summer, former Stade de Reims boss Will Still departed Lens after just one season, being appointed by Championship outfit Southampton, and he has been replaced by former Olympique Lyonnais manager Pierre Sage.

The northerners started their season with a loss to the aforementioned Lyon, but they have since been able to enjoy back-to-back victories. They defeated Le Havre by two goals to one before easing past Stade Brest by three goals to one.

Paris Saint-Germain team news: A few issues

The Parisiens have a couple of key injury absentees for this one, such as Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, whilst midfield duo Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz are doubtful.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Beraldo, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Zaire-Emery; Lee, Ramos, Barcola

Unavailable: Doue (Injured), Dembele (Injured)

Questionable: Mayulu (Injured), Fabian Ruiz (Injured)

Lens team news: Defensive injuries

Lens have a couple of defensive injury issues as they head to Paris this weekend, with Deiver Machado a confirmed absentee for the visitors, with Jhoanner Chavez also a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Risser; Gradit, Sarr, Udol; Aguilar, Sangare, Thomasson, Abdulhamid; Thauvin, Said; Fofana

Unavailable: Deiver Machado (Injured)

Questionable: Jhoanner Chavez (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain vs Lens prediction

Luis Enrique said that the opening month of the campaign was being used as a pre-season for PSG, as they missed out on a summer of preparation due to playing at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. They now face a Lens side that will head to Paris seeking to take advantage of any sort of distractions, with a smart coach in Pierre Sage. PSG remain favourites but, like against Toulouse the other week, it should be quite an entertaining watch for the neutral.
