Oksana Selekhmeteva competed in Oerias last time out, but lost in the first-round to Sinja Kraus in three sets. She impressed at the ATX Open two months ago, as she got through to the last eight of the competition. However, there have also been a number of first-round exits for the 23-year-old at tour-level.
She takes on Leolia Jeanjean in round one. Jeanjean is a qualifier in Madrid, having beaten Donna Vekic and Rebeka Masarova. The 30-year-old will be aiming for her first victory on the WTA this season, as she mainly competes at lower-level events. Her best result was a semi-final appearance in Pune. Nevertheless, she did impress at the Billie Jean King Cup earlier this month, winning three of her four singles matches.
Jeanjean does have a bit of momentum on her side after those recent victories, while Selekhmeteva has stalled somewhat, and that could result in a tight first-round encounter.
