Nishesh Basavareddy’s best result of the season so far was in Lille, as he reached the quarter-finals, winning four matches in a row in the process. However, his run ended against teen prodigy Moise Kouame. The American then attempted to qualify for the Miami Open, but lost in the first stage of qualifying to Tomas Barrios Vera. Basavareddy is ranked just inside the top 200 in the world rankings.
His opponent is Liam Draxl in the first-round. Draxl was able to get through qualifying after three set wins over Mitchell Krueger and Alexis Galarneau. He also showed some form in Miami as he qualified for the Masters 1000 event and took the first set against Quentin Halys in round one, before the Frenchman came back to win.
Basavareddy leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win in the final of the Puerto Vallarta Challenger, but this is their first ATP meeting. Draxl has already made that transition on the clay and currently has four wins from his last five matches.
