After what was likely a stern half-time team-talk following an underwhelming, goalless first half, China clicked into gear in the second period of their first Group F encounter against outsiders New Caledonia. After scoring almost immediately following the restart, China went on to put another four goals past their opponents, winning by five goals to nil.
That sees them in top spot above Spain, who defeated Nigeria 2-0 in Sosnowiec. The Spanish racked up 21 shots on goal, which bodes well for China and their hat-trick hero especially. Jiaxin Huang took home the match ball vs New Caledonia with three second-half goals and should prove a big attacking threat again this time around. Had Spain been more clinical, they would’ve beaten Nigeria by a significantly higher score-line and this makes China worth backing to triumph by more than just one goal.
