Newcastle preview: Securing UCL football

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat to runners’ up Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the penultimate match day of the campaign last season with a winning goal scored by England international midfielder Declan Rice.

The Magpies have enjoyed an extremely impressive season with an EFL Cup triumph, defeating Liverpool in the final at Wembley Stadium in March, and now in an excellent position to finish in the top five and secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.

Everton preview: Mid-table Toffees

Everton said goodbye to Goodison Park for the men’s team last weekend ahead of their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Docks next season and they gave it a winning send off in the sun on Merseyside.

David Moyes’ Toffees, firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table, defeated Southampton by two goals to nil with first-half goals scored by Senegal international attacker Iliman Ndiaye, leaving them unable to go lower or higher than 13th in the Premier League table.

Newcastle team news: Isak a doubt

Eddie Howe is hopeful that both Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak will be involved this weekend but neither had trained as of Friday. Matt Targett had returned to training in midweek, though.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Pope; Schar, Botman, Burn; Murphy, Guimaraes, Tonali, Livramento; Barnes, Wilson, Gordon

Unavailable: Hall (Injured), Joelinton (Injured)

Questionable: Trippier (Injured), Targett (Injured), Isak (Injured)

Everton team news: Branthwaite out

Having limped off through injury against Southampton last weekend, both Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman are unavailable for the Toffees here. They join James Tarkowski, Orel Mangala and Jesper Lindstrom on the sidelines.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Young, O’Brien, Keane, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; McNeil, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Beto

Unavailable: Tarkowski (Injured), Branthwaite (Injured), Coleman (Injured), Mangala (Injured), Lindstrom (Injured)

Questionable:

Newcastle vs Everton prediction

Newcastle United may have to deal without key man Alexander Isak for this one but, even with the ageing and injury prone Callum Wilson starting in between wingers Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes, they shouldn’t be too concerned. Everton are one of very few teams in the Premier League who even have financial incentives to play for this weekend as they sit firmly in 13th place and Newcastle should get themselves over the line upon Tyneside.

Newcastle vs Everton tip: Newcastle to win
