Newcastle Preview: Flying Magpies

Newcastle United were without manager Eddie Howe at the weekend with the Englishman taken to hospital on Saturday but the Magpies, with Jason Tindall at the helm, continued their excellent form by annihilating Manchester United by four goals to one at St James’ Park.

They went ahead in the first-half via Sweden international Alexander Isak before Alejandro Garnacho brought Manchester United back level before half-time. However, Newcastle ran riot in the second-half with a brace from Harvey Barnes as well as a Sandro Tonali goal.

Crystal Palace Preview: Soaring Eagles

Crystal Palace have been one of the best teams in the country since mid-to-late-October and they had seemingly closed the gap on the European spots, whilst also having an FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa to look forward to later this month.

The Eagles went 2-0 up at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday away to Manchester City but eventually suffered a 5-2 loss to the Cityzens due to goals from Omar Marmoush, Kevin De Bruyne, Mateo Kovacic, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly.

Newcastle Team News: Gordon has returned

In his pre-match press conference as he continues to stand in for Eddie Howe who is suffering from pneumonia, Jason Tindall has confirmed that Joe Willock has returned from concussion and can be involved this week. Anthony Gordon returned from the substitutes bench against United at the weekend.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton: Barnes, Isak, Gordon

Unavailable: Botman (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Hall (Injured)

Crystal Palace Team News: Guehi and Nketiah are back

Both Matt Turner and Romain Esse missed the trip to the Etihad Stadium due to illness but could both return to the squad as they now travel the north east. Palace will be able to welcome back club captain Marc Guehi as well as striker Eddie Nketiah after they both served a one-match suspension following red cards against Brighton.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta

Unavailable: Riad (Injured), Doucoure (Injured)

Questionable: Turner (Illness), Esse (Illness)

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Newcastle have now enjoyed five successive victories across all competitions since losing to Brighton and Hove Albion in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which has included winning the EFL Cup against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium. They now face a Crystal Palace side that do begin this week sitting in the bottom-half of the table but they are chasing European qualification just about. This should be quite an entertaining affair, albeit Newcastle remain favourites with their home advantage.

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Tip: Newcastle to win & both teams to score
