New Zealand vs Australia prediction

In the reverse fixture between these two sides the other day, Australia edged past New Zealand by a goal to nil at the GIO Stadium in Bruce. Second-half substitute Max Balard, of NAC Breda, scored the only goal of the game in that friendly for the Socceroos, in what was his international debut.

New Zealand are looking to set themselves up to be defensive and difficult to play against, having ensured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The appointment of former Crystal Palace defender Tony Popovic has massively improved Australia, which led to their own qualification the other month.

Australia are a strong side but themselves are defensive and reactive so, in Auckland, this one is expected to be a low-scoring encounter in what is an Australasian derby.

New Zealand vs Australia tip: Under 2.5 goals
