Defending champions Napoli have been some way off the same level of last season’s consistency as they welcome Atalanta to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Napoli preview: Need for consistency

Antonio Conte led Napoli to their fourth Serie A title last season but the Neapolitans are doing a typically Conte in Europe campaign with the Partenopei having struggled in the UEFA Champions League and lacked efficiency and consistency in Serie A.

Napoli head into this one having been knocked off top spot after a 2-0 defeat to Bologna a couple of weeks ago. That result means that they have now managed just two victories in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Atalanta preview: Average Bergamasci

Over the summer, Gian Piero Gasperini departed the Gewiss Stadium for Roma and he was replaced by Ivan Juric. However, after a poor start to the campaign, Juric has now himself been replaced, with Raffaele Palladino now at the helm.

Palladino is known as a disciple of Gasperini and that is the smart appointment, just too late. Juric made very little sense for the visitors and they only managed two victories in their 11 Serie A matches so far this season.

Napoli team news: Key issues

Billy Gilmour returned to action over the international break but they have lost Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, with other key absentees including goalkeeper Alex Meret and Belgium international legend Kevin De Bruyne.

Predicted XI (4-1-4-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Miguel Gutierrez; Lobotka; Politano, Elmas, McTominay, David Neres; Hojlund

Unavailable: Meret (Injured), De Bruyne (Injured), Anguissa (Injured)

Questionable: Spinazzola (Injured), Lukaku (Injured)

Atalanta team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Atalanta to deal with this weekend as they travel down to the Naples, albeit Mitchel Bakker remains sidelined.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Ahanor; Bellanova, Ederson, Pasalic, Zappacosta; Samardzic, Lookman; Krstovic

Unavailable: Bakker (Injured)

Questionable:

Napoli vs Atalanta prediction

Napoli have an issue in midfield with Billy Gilmour working back to full fitness and both De Bruyne and Anguissa unavailable. That could force Conte into playing a slightly more front foot style of football. They face an Atalanta side that are seeking to rediscover their Gasperini-inspired attacking spark under Palladino and, as a result, both teams scoring could well therefore be a good bet for this one in Naples.

Napoli vs Atalanta tip: Both teams to score
