Naomi Osaka vs Coco Gauff prediction

Former US Open champions Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka will lock horns in a battle that stands out as one of the matches of the tournament so far. 

The American produced a more assured performance last time out as she downed Magdalena Frech 6-3 6-1.

The third seed has had issues with her new-look serve and will need another composed performance if she’s to see off four-time major winner, Osaka. 

The Japanese star edged a rollercoaster clash with Daria Kasatkina by a 6-0 4-6 6-3 scoreline to maintain her fine form of late and set a sixth career showdown with Gauff - all on hard courts.

The American leads the head-to-head 3-2 and has won the previous two meetings. 

However, it was Osaka that triumphed 6-3 6-0 in their maiden encounter at this stage of the US Open back in 2019. 

Much has changed since then but there’s no doubt Osaka has the game to trouble the reigning French Open champion, particularly if she feels the heat on her vulnerable serve. 

Gauff has a habit of gritting things out and finding a way to win, but we feel this could be up for grabs and anticipate it being a thriller that should go the distance.
