Naomi Osaka’s pursuit of a fifth Grand Slam title sees her come up against Amanda Anisimova in what promises to be a big-hitting semi-final.
The two-time former US Open champion looks to be close to her form of old as she saw off the challenge of Karolina Muchova 6-4 7-6.
The 23rd seed will now face Anisimova for the third time after the eighth seed avenged her Wimbledon final humbling to beat world number two Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-3.
The American has won both of her previous meetings with Osaka, although the two encounters were back in 2022 at the Australian Open and Roland Garros respectively.
This could well prove to be a heavyweight battle and the winner of the opening set is likely to be key with the player who defends best and counter punches more accurately sure to prevail.
That potentially gives Anisimova a very slight edge, but it’s so hard to call given the form of both players and it feels like it has all the ingredients to go to the wire.
