Monza have endured a bizarre and turbulent campaign as they get set for a return to Serie B as they now take on one of the more entertaining sides in Serie A, Como, in Monza this weekend.

Monza Preview: Poor Monza

In early January, Monza took the decision to sack manager Alessandro Nesta as they languished at the bottom-of-the-table but after just a month of the Salvatore Bocchetti reign, Alessandro Nesta returned to oversee their relegation down into Serie B.

The hosts begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting ten points adrift of safety. The home team most recently suffered another humiliation as they were beaten 3-0 by Cagliari on the island of Sardinia last weekend.

Como Preview: Cesc’s Como

Under the management of former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Como have been entertaining to watch throughout the 2024/25 Serie A campaign with their 30 matches consisting of 83 goals.

They have been much-improved in the last couple of months, too, as they push towards the middle-of-the-table. However, they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against struggling Empoli at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia last weekend.

Monza Team News: A few injuries

The home team are dealing with a few injury absentees for the visit of Como this weekend as defensive duo Luca Caldirola and Andrea Carboni are both sidelined alongside midfield duo Matteo Pessina and Stefano Sensi.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Turati; Pereira, Izzo, D’Ambrosio; Birindelli, Castrovilli, Akpa-Akpro, Bianco, Kyriakopoulos; Dany Mota, Balde

Unavailable: Caldirola (Injured), Carboni (Injured), Pessina (Injured), Sensi (Injured)

Questionable:

Como Team News: Dele Alli back

After picking up a straight red card in his first game back in professional football just before the international break, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is now back available for Como. They remain without Alberto Dossena, though, due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; Vojvoda, Goldaniga, Kempf, Alberto Moreno; Sergi Roberto, Da Cunha; Gabriel Strefezza, Caqueret, Diao; Cutrone

Unavailable: Dossena (Injured)

Questionable:

Monza vs Como Prediction

Monza are very bad. They will expect to have their relegation mathematically confirmed at some stage this month. They offer very little in attack and conceded three goals to one of the weakest attacks in the league last weekend. Como are now winless in their last four matches but their performances have been improving through the season and they will now expect to finish the campaign with a bit of a flourish, beginning with a victory in this one at Stadio Brianteo this weekend.

Monza vs Como Tip: Como to win
