Currently 0-3 with the promotion, Sam Hughes (5-4) will be desperate to taste victory inside the UFC octagon for the first time in her professional career. Coming off of a defeat Luana Pinheiro, it’s definitely now or never for Hughes this weekend. Another defeat, and that could spell the end of her UFC career.
As for Istela Nunes (6-2), the Brazilian native will be aiming to pick up her first win in the UFC. Nunes had an unsuccessful debut against Ariane Carnelossi back in October of 2021. Currently 3-2 in her last five professional outings, Nunes has the chance to make a statement this weekend against Hughes.

Going into this weekend’s strawweight matchup, Hughes will have the advantage in height. However, Nunes just edges the reach department. We suspect that Nunes will use her efficient striking to get the job done against Hughes. It’s fair to say that the Brazilian has an advantage in the power and technique area of striking, whilst Hughes really lacks in that area.
With that being said, Sam may look to use her wrestling in this fight in order to try and outpoint Nunes. This is due to the fact that Nunes struggled immensely with Ariane Carnelossi grappling. However, it’s evident that Hughes isn’t as aggressive with the wrestling compared to Carnelossi.
