GIAN VILLANTE VS CHRIS BARNETT LOWDOWN
Gian Villante (17-13) is currently enduring the worst spell of his professional career so far. Villante is currently 1-4 in his last five fights and is coming off of a defeat to Jake Collier via decision. Gian’s last win inside the UFC came three years ago. At 36 years of age, defeat this weekend could spell the end for Gian Villante.
Chris Barnett (21-7) suffered a defeat to Ben Rothwell on his UFC debut five months ago. Prior to Barnett’s defeat to Rothwell, Barnett was unbeaten in six professional fights. Sixteen out of his twenty-one professional wins have come via a form of knockout. After suffering a loss on his promotional debut, Chris Barnett will be itching to get back in the win column this weekend.
GIAN VILLANTE VS CHRIS BARNETT PREDICTION
When looking at Villante’s recent performances, he gassed out against Maurice Greene and was severely outclassed on the feet by Jake Collier. Gian hasn’t finished an opponent in nearly five years.
Now, Chris Barnett is hardly the next big thing at heavyweight. However, he’s a highly skilled striker coming up against an underachieving light heavyweight. A potential key to victory for Villante this weekend is to push forward and control proceedings.
On top of that, Villante could exploit Barnett’s poor takedown defence. With that being said, Barnett’s striking advantage could pay dividends this weekend. Barnett’s versatility in his striking and speed will be enough to get the job done.
