AZAT MAKSUM VS CHARLES JOHNSON LOWDOWN
Azat Maksum (17-0) returns for his second UFC cap. He made his long-awaited debut last year at UFC on ESPN 49 against Tyson Nam (2023). He did not set the UFC alight, but he still stretched his unbeaten record with a split decision to get his UFC account up and running.
Charles Johnson (13-6) heads to the APEX hoping to snap the streak. To do so, he will have to snap his own streak which consists of three losses on the bounce. He started 2023 with a TKO over Jimmy Flick, but went on to lose decisions to Ode Osbourne, Cody Durden and Rafael Estevam.
AZAT MAKSUM VS CHARLES JOHNSON PREDICTION
Johnson steps up as a replacement hoping to preserve his UFC career. Maksum was preparing for Nate Maness who presented a slightly different challenge, but we expect Maksum to adopt the same game plan.
That will be to rely on his wrestling, pin Johnson on his back and work on a knockout or submission. The American takes this on short notice, but he is better than his form suggests.
He is very durable, but he does not have the power to threaten the knockout or defend the takedown and we are backing the Kazakhstani to extend his unbeaten record with a convincing decision.
