Mirra Andreeva recovered from a slump in the second set as she defeated McCartney Kessler to reach the third-round in Miami. The Russian breezed through the opener but went a break down in the second as Kessler came alive in the match. Despite getting back on level terms, Andreeva was taken to a decider after losing the set on a tiebreak. Nevertheless, she dominated the third to win 6-1 6-7 (3) 6-1 after an hour and 58 minutes.
She will now face Marie Bouzkova. The Czech has struggled at the start of the season, but she produced a really encouraging performance to get past Elsa Jacquemot. Bouzkova broke on five separate occasions and won 82% of her first serve points as she claimed a 6-2 6-2 victory after an hour and 25 minutes.
Andreeva leads the head-to-head 3-0 and is yet to drop a set to Bouzkova in their meetings. If she can keep her composure from the start, she may be difficult to stop.
