Mirra Andreeva lost in the round-of-16 stage at Stuttgart, going down in straight-sets to Ekaterina Alexandrova. That was a disappointing start to her clay court preparations ahead of Roland Garros next month.
The 17-year-old has still had a phenomenal season so far, winning in Dubai and Indian Wells but she will hope she can add a clay court title this season to a growing trophy cabinet. She already won the Iasi Open on clay in 2024, her first ever title on the WTA Tour and she can cause problems for anyone on the circuit.
Marie Bouzkova will be her opponent after she defeated Renata Zarazua in three sets. They’ve already played against each other this year, in their only encounter so far, with Andreeva brushing aside Bouzkova 6-3 6-3 at the Australian Open.
Though they’ve never faced each other on clay, we can envisage a similar scoreline in Madrid with the Russian easily getting past her opponent once more.
