Mirra Andreeva competes in her first tournament since losing in the third-round of the US Open to Taylor Townsend. It’s still been a fantastic year for the 18-year-old, who has already won two WTA 1000 events in Dubi and Indian Wells. She is at her highest ranking of five in the world and has a brilliant record on hard courts this season, with 22 wins from her 28 matches on the surface.
Lin Zhu is her second-round opponent. Zhu defeated Moyuka Uchijima comfortably to advance in Beijing. She broke the Japanese in her first service game as she raced to a 6-1 6-3 win after an hour and 24 minutes. She saved five out of the six break point opportunities on offer and continued her unbeaten run on hard courts against Uchijima.
Andreeva will be raring to go after a few weeks away from the tour and is likely to get through this one in straight sets.
