Mayar Sherif vs Arantxa Rus prediction
Mayar Sherif made a poor start to her clay season with back-to-back first-round losses in Madrid and Rome. However, the Egyptian decided to compete in a 250 in Parma last week and made a huge breakthrough. As the fifth seed, Sherif advanced through to the final after three straight wins and her opponent in the quarter-final, Yulia Putinsteva withdrawing before their match took place.
Sherif defeated Victoria Mboko in the final and is suddenly in form after a largely disappointing campaign. Her opponent Arantxa Rus made it through qualifying for the Italian Open but then lost in the first-round to Katie Volynets. Rus, who does hold 33 titles on the ITF circuit, has barely made an impact in any of her WTA events this year.
Rus won their only match in August 2021 on clay, but that was on the ITF Tour. Sherif has improved as a player since their first encounter and is coming off the back of a fine tournament win in Parma. We expect her to pick up where she left off and win in straight sets.
