Mattia Bellucci began his clay court season with a quarter-final appearance in Morocco, losing to Tallon Griekspoor with the Dutchman going on to reach the final. Unfortunately for the Brazilian, that remains his best result on clay as he has failed to win on the tour since.
Jack Draper has made real strides on the surface over the past six weeks. The Indian Wells champion lost in the third-round of Monte-Carlo but then went on a brilliant run in Madrid, reaching his first ever final on clay with victories over the likes of Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Musetti. He pushed Casper Ruud all the way but lost in three sets. Draper followed that up with another encouraging display in Rome, as he made the quarter-finals before losing to Carlos Alcaraz who would go on to win.
Draper seemed to be running out of steam towards the latter stages of the Italian Open but he should be well rested after nearly two weeks since his last match. We think he’ll get off to a flying start here.
