Marta Kostyuk vs Elena Rybakina prediction

Marta Kostyuk made a winning return in the second-round of Indian Wells as she defeated Taylor Townsend in straight sets. The Ukrainian had not featured for over six weeks, after sustaining an injury in the first-round of the Australian Open, but she reeled off six successive games at one point as she won 6-3 6-2.

She faces 2023 champion Elena Rybakina next. The two-time Grand Slam champion was tested by Hailey Baptiste but still managed to advance to the next stage of the competition. Rybakina edged ahead after the first set, but her level dropped in the second, with Baptiste winning five successive games as she levelled the match up. The 26-year-old regained her focus to win 7-6 (5) 2-6 6-2 after two hours and 16 minutes. Rybakina conceded 10 break point opportunities on serve, and was broken on three occasions.

Rybakina will need to improve her first serve percentage if she is to give herself an opportunity of winning a second title here. Kostyuk impressed on her first match back, and she could challenge the reigning Australian Open champion here.
