Marseille preview: UCL qualification
Under the management of former Brighton and Hove Albion and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi, Olympique de Marseille have now assured themselves of a top three spot and UEFA Champions League qualification from Ligue 1.
They have often been Jekyll and Hyde this season within the same game and that was the case last weekend as they eventually defeated struggling Le Havre by three goals to one at Stade Oceane thanks to a late brace from Amine Gouiri as well as a Mason Greenwood strike.
Rennes preview: Entertaining Rennes
Coached by former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli, who was appointed during the November international break, Stade Rennais have been thrilling to watch in recent weeks as they finally improve after some further heavy investment during the winter transfer window.
Rennes most recently defeated Nice by two goals to nil at Roazhon Park last weekend thanks to a brace of goals from former Paris Saint-Germain striker Armand Kalimuendo. That leaves them firmly in the middle-of-the-table in Ligue 1.
Marseille team news: Midfield doubts
Both goalkeeper Ruben Blanco and centre-back Chancel Mbemba remain sidelined for Marseille this weekend but they also have some fresh injury doubts in midfield, too, such as Ismael Bennacer and Central African Republic international Geoffrey Kondogbia.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Balerdi, Cornelius, Ulisses Garcia; Rongier, Hojbjerg; Greenwood, Rabiot, Rowe; Gouiri
Unavailable: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Mbemba (Injured)
Questionable: Bennacer (Injured), Kondogbia (Injured)
Rennes team news: Wooh suspended
Rennes centre-back Christopher Wooh is missing through suspension ahead of the trip to Stade Velodrome this weekend. His fellow defender, Alidu Seidu, remains sidelined due to an ACL injury for the visitors for this one.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Samba; Jacquet, Rouault, Brassier, Truffert; Matusiwa, Cisse, Kone; Al Tamari, Kalimuendo, Blas
Unavailable: Seidu (Injured), Wooh (Suspended)
Questionable: Sishuba (Injured)
Marseille vs Rennes prediction
Marseille head into this game with the pressure off having secured a top three spot and automatic UEFA Champions League qualification. They have been brilliant and chaotic to watch this season with their 33 Ligue 1 matches consisting of 115 goals. They now face a Rennes side that haven’t quite gelled into Jorge Sampaoli’s ideal style of football but they will also likely be a bit looser on the final day of the season and it should be an entertaining encounter down in the south of France.
