Mariano Navone vs Daniel Merida Aguilar prediction
Mariano Navone advanced to his third ATP Tour final and his second in Bucharest following a dramatic win over Botic van de Zandschulp in three sets. The Dutchman took the lead as he won the first set and looked on course for victory as he served for the match at 5-3 up in the second. However, Navone saved a match point and broke back, before saving another on his own serve. He levelled the match on a tiebreak and clinched victory when Van de Zandschulp leaked a forehand error wide as he was serving to stay in the match.
He faces Daniel Merida Aguilar, who is into his first tour-level final following a brilliant comeback win over Fabian Marozsan. The young Spaniard served for the first set but ended up going behind after Marozsan broke back and edged ahead in the tiebreak. He dominated the next two sets to win 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-1. He had not won a tour-level match prior to this week, and yet now he is one win away from an ATP 250 title.
Navone’s experience should be key in this final, but he will have to deal with the expectations of being the clear favourite.
