Maria Sakkari vs Lilli Tagger prediction
Maria Sakkari is seeded, after a recent resurgence that has seen her close in on the top 30 of the world rankings. Sakkari excelled at her last event as she won four matches in a row to make the semi-finals in Doha. This included a fantastic comeback victory over world number two Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals, Sakkari’s best result for quite some time. She has a fine record at this event too, having made the final on two previous occasions.
The Greek faces Lilli Tagger in the second-round. She beat Varvara Graheva the previous stage of the tournament. Tagger took the first with ease and went a break up, but was then pegged back. Nevertheless, she increased her level again to win 6-2 6-4. She reached the final of her last two lower-level events, and now has 10 wins from her last 11 matches.
Sakkari is the favourite but she is likely to be tested by Tagger, who has performed really strongly in recent weeks.
