Marcos Giron will be buoyed by his push to the Chengdu quarter-finals when he takes on the challenge of Seb Korda in Japan. 

The world number 50 looks to have come through a torrid spell and will hope his recent flurry of matches will give him the edge against his fellow American. 

Korda has tumbled from 23 to outside the top 70 following a spell out with a stress fracture in his shin, but did return with a semi-final run at Winston-Salem. 

The 25-year-old leads the head-to-head 1-0 and has the raw power to make life difficult for Giron. 

Ranking may well go out the window in this one, particularly if Korda serves well, but it may go three as he battles for consistency.
