Marco Trungelliti continued his incredible run of form as he reached his first ATP Tour final with a win over top seed and defending champion Luciano Darderi. The Argentine, who won a Challenger event in Kigali before this tournament, made it 11 wins in a row as he defeated Darderi 6-4 7-6 (2). He will make his first appearance inside the top 100 of the world rankings next week, at the age of 36.
He faces Rafael Jodar, with the Spaniard also advancing to his first tour-level final after a dominant win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Jodar wasn’t broken on serve and won seven games in a row at one point as he wrapped up a 6-2 6-1 win after just one hour and three minutes.
There is an 16-year age gap between the pair, but there will be nerves for both, ahead of the biggest match of their careers so far. This is likely to be one of many for Jodar, and if he can make a fast start, he may just edge this one.
