It is another Monday night outing for Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United as the Red Devils welcome an out of form AFC Bournemouth side to Old Trafford.

Man Utd preview: Improved but inconsistent

It cannot be argued that Manchester United haven’t improved this season as Ruben Amorim’s side seek to challenge for the top four and UEFA Champions League qualification, but they are still capable of utterly woeful performances.

Fortunately, their most recent outing saw them dispatch of a genuinely shocking Wolverhampton Wanderers side at Molineux last weekend, running out 4-1 winners with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount, as well as a Bruno Fernandes brace.

Bournemouth preview: Need a win

Andoni Iraola remains a highly sought-after coach but the former Rayo Vallecano boss simply requires a win very soon with AFC Bournemouth having majorly drifted after a bright start to the campaign.

The Cherries earned a goalless draw against Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium last week but the south coast outfit are now winless in their last six matches and they have managed just two victories in their last 11 games.

Man Utd team news: Several issues

In his pre-match press conference, Ruben Amorim has confirmed some defensive injury absentees with both Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt having been ruled out for the clash at Old Trafford.

Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko has returned from injury and could be available on Monday night, but he has been dealing with illness recently, while the likes of Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo remain in limbo as they could yet depart for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations before the game.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Yoro, Heaven, Shaw; Diallo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha; Mount

Unavailable: Maguire (Injured), De Ligt (Injured)

Questionable: Mazraoui (International duty), Diallo (International duty), Mbeumo (International duty), Sesko (Illness)

Bournemouth team news: Senesi a doubt

Argentina international centre-back Marcos Senesi is a major injury doubt for this one but manager Andoni Iraola has said they will make a late decision on his fitness for the trip to Old Trafford as he deals with 'cramp and some issues'.

Summer signing and fellow defender Veljko Milosavljevic is now unavailable for the next few months due to injury, while defensive midfielder Lewis Cook is missing through suspension. Tyler Adams has returned from suspension, though.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Smith, Diakite, Senesi, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Tavernier, Kluivert, Semenyo; Evanilson

Unavailable: Milosavljevic (Injured), Cook (Suspended), Christie (Injured), Gannon Doak (Injured)

Questionable: Senesi (Injured), Akinmboni (Injured)

Man Utd vs Bournemouth prediction

Manchester United, with underlying data as well as the eye test more generally, have been a lot better this season, but they are still capable of appearing susceptible to most teams. Bournemouth are a side that will provide them the opportunity to counter-attack but the same can be said for the hosts with the visitors and so both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one in Salford.

Man Utd vs Bournemouth tip: Both teams to score
