It has been a tough start for Real Mallorca in terms of the level of their opponents and it is not getting much easier as they welcome Atletico Madrid to the Balearic Islands.

Mallorca preview: Tough start for the Majorcans

Former Osasuna boss Jago Arrasate was tasked with making Real Mallorca a bit better to watch and maintain a push for Europe, but the Balearic Islanders missed out last season and have continued to find it difficult to score with regularity.

They have collected just one point from their opening four matches this season but they have played Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as a Celta Vigo side that qualified for Europe last season. They were beaten by high-flying Espanyol last weekend.

Atletico Madrid preview: Frustrated Atleti

Diego Simeone was under a bit of pressure over the September international break and that showed with his unusually large celebrations after a much-needed 2-0 victory over Villarreal at the Metropolitano last weekend, their first of the season.

They once again suffered defeat in midweek, beaten 3-2 by Liverpool in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Atletico fought back from 2-0 down in that game before Virgil van Dijk snatched the win in second-half stoppage-time.

Mallorca team news: No Dani Rodriguez

The pressure may be growing on Jago Arrasate, and one issue he is dealing with is dissent from experienced midfielder Dani Rodriguez, who is now the subject of an internal suspension.

Predicted XI (3-5-1-1): Leo Roman; Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Kumbulla; Mateu Morey, Sergi Darder, Manu Morlanes, Pablo Torre, Johan Mojica; Mateo Joseph; Muriqi

Unavailable: Dani Rodriguez (Disciplinary)

Questionable:

Atletico Madrid team news: No Johnny or Julian

Atletico Madrid went to Anfield to face Liverpool without Johnny Cardoso and Julian Alvarez, with both unavailable for this weekend, too. They are also without new signings Alex Baena and Thiago Almada.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Oblak; Marcos Llorente, Le Normand, Lenglet, Javi Galan; Giuliano Simeone, Pablo Barrios, Koke, Gonzalez; Sorloth, Raspadori

Unavailable: Jose Maria Gimenez (Injured), Johnny (Injured), Alex Baena (Injured), Almada (Injured), Julian Alvarez (Injured)

Questionable:

Mallorca vs Atletico Madrid prediction

Last weekend, Mallorca did perform quite well against what is a strong Espanyol side and the Kosovo international striker Vedat Muriqi was brilliant once again. The Majorcans will seek to once again be defensive again, though, and even when they have played well this year, which hasn’t been too common, Atletico have been low-scoring and tedious for the neutral. As a result, a low-scoring affair seems quite likely in Palma de Mallorca this weekend.

Mallorca vs Atletico Madrid tip: Under 2.5 goals
