The first-leg of this UEFA Europa Conference League round of 16 tie in Czechia saw Mainz and Sigma Olomouc share a goalless draw at the Andruv Stadion.
Mainz overperformed last year but significantly underperformed in the first-half of this season, leading to the replacing of Bo Henriksen with Urs Fischer, and they have been much-improved since then. Mainz’ recent 2-0 victory away at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga at the weekend means that they have now suffered just two defeats in their last 16 matches across all competitions.
Coming from one of Europe’s biggest leagues, Mainz were always one of the favourites for this tournament but now, after steadying the ship against the relegation battle, that status has only been enhanced.
