Magda Linette comfortably got past Barbora Krejcikova 6-3 6-3 to make the round-of-16 stage in Strasbourg. The Pole’s opponent was returning to the tour after a long layoff but it was a good performance from Linette who was always ahead in the match.
Rebecca Sramkova got off to a great start at the event as she breezed past Yulia Putintseva 6-0 6-4. The Slovakian did not drop her serve throughout the whole match. This will be their first match on clay with Sramkova having won their only encounter at the Thailand Open last September. She defeated Linette 7-6 6-4 in the second-round.
Both opponents are coming off the back of impressive first-round victories and it could be a very tight affair between the two players, with both strong from the back of the court and hoping to outlast the other during the long rallies.
