Mackenzie McDonald has three defeats from his four matches on clay over the last six weeks. His only victory came in the first-round of the Houston Open but he then lost to Brandon Nakashima in straight sets. He failed to get beyond the qualifying in Munich or Madrid.
Novak Djokovic finally clinched his 100th career title with a win over Hubert Hurkacz in the final at the Geneva Open last week. It was a much-needed boost for the 24-time Grand Slam champion after a slow clay court campaign up to that point, with early exits in Monte-Carlo and Madrid.
A three-time winner at Roland Garros, Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the tournament last year before his quarter-final due to a knee injury. He hasn’t actually lost at the French Open since a quarter-final defeat to great rival Rafael Nadal in May 2022.
The Serbian is on an 11-match winning streak in terms of completed matches at Roland Garros and we expect him to get off to a winning start with a dominant victory against McDonald.
