Mackenzie McDonald vs Nikoloz Basilashvili prediction

Qualifier Mackenzie McDonald continued his upturn in form in Chengdu as he outlasted Botic van de Zandschulp to reach the round of 16.

The American clinched a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over the Dutchman and will now face Nikoloz Basilashvili buoyed by a dominant head-to-head record.

The Georgian, who continued his own run from qualifying with a 7-6 6-3 victory over lucky loser Billy Harris, has lost all three tour-level encounters with McDonald and was also beaten in Miami qualifying last year.

The American has the better ranking just inside the top 100 and the match-up certainly suggests he has the formula for how to beat Basilashvili.

Some records eventually fall, but we don’t see McDonald coming unstuck this time around and the pattern is usually a comfortable win for him.
