Mackenzie McDonald meets Colton Smith in an all-American tussle in Washington.

The 30-year-old will be eager to earn the bragging rights against the rising 22-year-old, who is threatening to crack the top 100 by the end of the year. 

McDonald is very much happier on a hard court and will want to arrest a mini dip that has seen him lose his last three. 

Smith remains pretty much a novice at tour level and had to battle through qualifying, but he has the serve to do damage and will relish the chance to take down a more senior American, which makes this a tricky opener for Mackenzie.
