Luca Nardi vs Flavio Cobolli prediction

Luca Nardi has struggled for form all this season and that hasn’t changed over the past month. He suffered a six-match losing streak which included first-round losses in Bucharest and Monte-Carlo. He temporarily stopped the rot with a win in the first stage of Madrid qualifying but still couldn’t reach the main draw after he lost in the next stage to Hugo Gaston.

There was positives to take from the Estoril Challenger last week, as the Italian won two successive matches before falling to a straight sets defeat to Alex Michelsen in the quarter-finals.

Flavio Cobolli had a similarly disappointing start to the year before his first ever ATP career title in Bucharest. He hasn’t been able to truly maintain that form on clay but did make the third-round of the Madrid Open in his last outing, taking the first set against Holger Rune in the second-round before the Dane was forced to retire.

Nardi can take encouragement from leading the head-to-head 2-0, including a win earlier this season, but this is their first encounter on clay.

There’s been a clear improvement in Cobolli’s performance levels since his transition to clay and we favour him getting through in three sets.
