Lorenzo Sonego vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert prediction
Lorenzo Sonego’s comeback from injury has not gone as planned, and the Italian is on a five-match losing streak as he begins his campaign at Roland Garros. A wrist issue kept him out for three months following the Australian Open and despite winning his first match on his return against Pedro Martinez in Barcelona, Sonego lost his next encounter against Andrey Rublev. He then suffered early exits in Madrid, Cagliari, Rome and Geneva.
His first-round opponent is Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The veteran qualified for his home slam as he beat Leandro Riedi in his final match. Herbert, a Career Grand Slam winner in doubles, is ranked outside the top 200 in singles but has still got through to a final on the Challenger Tour this season.
Sonego is the favourite for this one, but there are concerns over his form and fitness heading into this major. His results have been largely poor ever since his run to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 2025.
Lorenzo Sonego vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert tip: Over 38.5 games
