Lorenzo Musetti reached the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters last year, taking the first set against Carlos Alcaraz before losing in three. The Italian is making his return from injury here, having withdrawn from the Miami Open due to an arm issue. He did make a comeback at Indian Wells earlier that month, but he was uncompetitive against Marton Fucsovics. Musetti enjoyed an incredible clay court campaign in 2025, as he reached the semi-finals or better of all four tournaments he competed in.
He was handed a bye in the first-round and now faces home favourite Valentin Vacherot. The Monegasque came from a set down to beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Vacherot was in trouble as he dropped the first set and went 2-0 down in the second. However, he fought back by winning 12 of the next 13 games to claim a 5-7 6-2 6-1 win.
Musetti will hope to regain his sharpness quickly, but he thoroughly enjoys playing at this event and should be able to return to winning ways.
