Lorenzo Musetti vs Frances Tiafoe prediction

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Holger Rune in four sets to make it through to the quarter-finals of Roland Garros for the first time. The Italian won 7-5 3-6 6-3 6-2. It was a competitive match between the pair for large parts of the encounter, but Musetti wore down the Dane to register his first win over a top 10 player at a major.

He now takes on Frances Tiafoe as he continued his best ever run in Paris, beating Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-4 7-6. The American was not in great form heading into the event but becomes the first American to reach the quarters without dropping a set since Andre Agassi in 1995. It was another dominant display from Tiafoe, who won 30 of his 37 net points.

Tiafoe leads the head-to-head 3-2 but Musetti leads 1-0 on clay. The American comfortably won their most recent encounter in Cincinnati last year in straight sets though the current world number eight did come from a set down to beat Tiafoe in Rome two years ago. 

Tiafoe has enjoyed a fantastic run this year, but Musetti has been one of the consistent players of this clay court season, having made the final in Monte-Carlo and reached the last four in Madrid and Rome. He’s good value to advance to the last four of a major for the second time in his career.
