Lorenzo Musetti advanced to the round-of-16 in Rome after a hard-fought victory over Francisco Cerundolo. Musetti went a break down early on but managed to break back as Cerundolo served for the first set. However, the Italian failed to serve it out himself as the set went all the way to a tiebreak. Musetti saved a set point in a lengthy breaker, winning the final three points to take the lead. He broke twice in the second to win 7-6 (7) 6-4.
He now faces Casper Ruud after the Norwegian comfortably got past Jiri Lehecka. He won 81% of his first serve points and conceded just two break points as he won 6-4 6-4 after one hour and 19 minutes. Ruud is now one match away from back-to-back quarter-finals at this event.

Musetti seemed to be struggling physically towards the end of his match with Cerundolo, and that will come as a blow after his injury problems earlier in the season.
