Lorenzo Musetti vs Alexander Zverev prediction
Lorenzo Musetti broke new ground at his home event as he made the quarter-finals of the Italian Open for the first time with a 7-5 6-4 win over Daniil Medvedev. The Italian had to overcome a three hour rain delay on match point but returned to take victory at the first attempt and now goes up against Alexander Zverev for a place in the semi-finals.
Zverev continued his fine defence of his title with a straight sets win over Arthur Fils. Zverev went a break up against the Frenchman early on but was pegged back before sealing the first set on a tiebreak. The world number two then raced clear in the second to win 7-6 6-1 and make it nine matches without defeat in Rome.
The head-to-head is 2-1 in Zverev’s favour and 1-1 on clay. The German beat Musetti in Madrid three years ago while Musetti won their encounter in straight sets at the Paris Olympics last year. Both players have been in imperious form so far, with neither dropping a set but Zverev has a strong record at this event and has the ability to go up a level and win out over three sets.
