Liverpool are becoming a bit desperate in their search for form as the Reds now welcome Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven to Anfield this midweek.

Liverpool preview: Poor return to action

Liverpool suffered their sixth defeat in seven matches in the Premier League at the weekend as the Reds suffered a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield due to goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Arne Slot’s side had appeared to have turned a corner a few weeks ago after back-to-back victories against Aston Villa and Real Madrid but even slender victories like those seemed like extremely hard work for last season’s winning machine.

PSV preview: Entertaining PSV

Peter Bosz led PSV Eindhoven to the defence of their Dutch Eredivisie title and they are again sitting at the top-of-the-table in the Netherlands after they edged past NAC Breda by a goal to nil, courtesy of a Guus Til winner scored in the 36th minute.

Their most recent outing in the UEFA Champions League, PSV shared a 1-1 draw with Olympiacos to back up a 6-2 victory over Napoli. They have also drawn with Bayer Leverkusen and suffered a surprise defeat to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Liverpool team news: Wirtz probably out

Florian Wirtz was ruled out of their clash with Nottingham Forest at the weekend and is a doubt for this one, whilst right-backs Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong are both sidelined.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Isak

Unavailable: Leoni (Injured), Bradley (Injured), Frimpong (Injured)

Questionable: Wirtz (Injured)

PSV team news: Couple of injuries

Exciting winger Ryan van Bommel, the son of Mark, enjoyed a brilliant start to the season but he is now missing through injury alongside former Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Kovar; Dest, Schouten, Gasiorowski, Salah-Eddine; Saibari, Junior, Veerman; Man, Til, Perisic

Unavailable: Van Bommel (Injured), Plea (Injured)

Questionable:

Liverpool vs PSV prediction

Arne Slot is under a bit of pressure at Anfield. Liverpool’s heavy summer of spending, which was also marked by the tragic death of Diogo Jota, has led to a complete lack of cohesion in attack and a lack of energy at the back. They face a PSV side that are inconsistent in terms of results but often always entertaining to watch. That should mean this turns out to be quite an entertaining clash which, despite their dip in form, Liverpool have to remain as favourites for with their home advantage.

Liverpool vs PSV Tip: Liverpool to win & over 2.5 goals
