The Austrian wildcard claimed just the sixth tour-level win of her career with a 6-4 7-6 success over the Spaniard.
The 18-year-old world number 118 will now take on third seed Liudmila Samsonova and will be aiming for lightning to strike twice against another big name.
Clay is Samsonova’s weakest surface statistically and the Russian has struggled of late, losing her last five on the spin and eight of her previous ten.
