Lille Preview: Searching for consistency

Following the departure of Paulo Fonseca to AC Milan last summer, former Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais boss Bruno Genesio have been as good as they were last season as they hover just outside of the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots in Ligue 1.

The northerners had made themselves an extremely difficult to beat for any team in European football but they have since regressed to a more inconsistent run. However, they did manage to defeat Toulouse by two goals to one at Stadium de Toulouse last weekend.

Auxerre Preview: Steady Auxerre

Under the management of Christophe Pelissier, Auxerre have enjoyed an impressive campaign this season following their return to Ligue 1 football this season having gained automatic promotion to the top-flight last season.

They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table but the visitors do come into this one on the back of a fairly comprehensive 3-1 defeat to the aforementioned Lyon in their most recent outing last week.

Lille Team News: Key doubts

Ahead of the visit of Auxerre this weekend, Lile have some key injury doubts for this one such as former France international defender Samuel Umtiti, England international midfielder Angel Gomes and Kosovo international attacker Edon Zhegrova.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Chevalier; Mandi, Diakite, Alexsandro, Ismaily; Andre, And. Gomes; Bakker, Haraldsson, Fernandez-Pardo; David

Unavailable: Santos (Injured)

Questionable: Umtiti (Injured), Ang. Gomes (Injured), Zhegrova (Injured)

Auxerre Team News: No Traore

AFC Bournemouth loanee Hamed Junior Traore has been dealing with injury issues throughout the season despite an impressive campaign and he is now sidelined due to a hamstring issue alongside the likes of Theo Pellenard, Nathan Buayi-Kiala and Lasso Coulibaly.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Leon; Diomande, Jubal, Akpa; Hoever, Diousse, Danois, Mensah; Perrin, Sinayoko, Onaiwu

Unavailable: Pellenard (Injured), Buayi-Kiala (Injured), Traore (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured)

Questionable: Danois (Injured), Owusu (Injured), Zossou (Injured)

Lille vs Auxerre Prediction

Lille have continued to play the style of football that Fonseca initially implemented with an easy on the eye approach that sees them try to dominate possession but a lack of clarity in the final third, as well as the prolonged absence of Zhegrova, has hurt them. They do now face an Auxerre side that would be forgiven for now coasting and heading to the beach for the final few weeks of the campaign and Lille, especially with home advantage, should push themselves through to another vital three points.

Lille vs Auxerre Tip: Lille to win & under 3.5 goals
