These are two sides that are expected to struggle this season and it has been a woeful start for the hosts, as Lecce now welcome a steady Cagliari side down to Apulia.

Lecce preview: Woeful Lecce

In their opening three matches of the 2025/26 Serie A season, Lecce have managed to collect just one point with two defeats in those three games. They sit rock-bottom, sitting below both Pisa and Parma on goal difference.

Their goal difference took a hammering last weekend as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, a couple of weeks after they suffered a 2-0 loss to AC Milan at Stadio Comunale Via del Mare.

Cagliari preview: Steady Sardinians

They face a Cagliari side that have once again undergone some change over the summer, with Serie A’s so-called ‘fire fighter’ Davide Nicola having left for newly-promoted Cremonese, and having been replaced by Tommaso Giulini.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of comfortable 2-0 defeat of Parma at the Unipol Domus last weekend, courtesy of goals in either half from Colombia international centre-back Yerry Mina and Italian forward Mattia Felici.

Lecce team news: Several injuries

Lecce are dealing with several injury issues for the visit of Cagliari this weekend, as an array of midfielders such as Filip Marchwinski, Mohamed Kaba and Balthazar Pierret are all sidelined.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Falcone; Kouassi, Gaspar, Siebert, Gallo; Coulibaly, Ramadani, Sala; Tete Morente, Stulic, Sottil

Unavailable: Jean (Injured), Marchwinski (Injured), Kaba (Injured), Pierret (Injured)

Questionable:

Cagliari team news: Attacking absentees

As they make the trip to the mainland this weekend, Cagliari have a couple of attacking absentees for this one, such as Italian striker Leonardo Pavoletti and Angola international Zito Luvumbo.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Caprile; Zappa, Yerry Mina, Luperto, Obert; Prati; Makoumbou, Folorunsho; Gaetano; Belotti, Esposito

Unavailable: Pavoletti (Injured), Zito Luvumbo (Injured)

Questionable:

Lecce vs Cagliari prediction

Lecce have produced a couple of so-called ‘great escapes’ in the last couple of years, but the pressure is on Eusebio Di Francesco, who has overseen the relegations of both Frosinone and Venezia, saving Lecce, in the last couple of years. They face a Cagliari side that are seeking to become a little bit more front foot this year and the Serie A stalwarts have started steadily, with a bet in favour of the Sardinians seeming a reasonable shout, in a likely low-scoring affair.

Lecce vs Cagliari tip: Double chance – Cagliari to win & under 3.5 goals
