Laura Siegemund vs Sofia Kenin prediction
Laura Siegemund equalled her best ever run at the US Open, first achieved in 2016, as she reached the third-round. This included a surprise victory over Diana Shnaider in round one. However, the German was totally uncompetitive in her defeat against Ekaterina Alexandrova, winning just one game. Siegemund also made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon this year.
She faces Sofia Kenin who has endured a difficult season. She has hardly got going during the year and is currently on a four match losing streak. Her nightmare North American hard court summer swing, which included first-round losses in Toronto and Cincinnati, ended in similar fashion as she lost in three sets to Ashlyn Krueger early on in New York.
Kenin does lead the head-to-head handsomely, with three victories to Siegemund’s zero. This includes two victories on hard courts at the 2019 US Open and Guangzhou Open. Though Kenin often excels against her opponent, she will be low on confidence after a run of poor losses, and we can see this heading into a decider.
