Laura Siegemund vs Irina-Camelia Begu prediction
Laura Siegemund competed in Stuttgart last week, winning her first-round match against Viktoriya Tomova in three sets, before a loss to six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the next stage. The German has lost six matches out of 11 this year, and she has failed to get beyond the second-round of any tournament so far. Siegemund will seek to pick up back-to-back victories this season for the first time in Madrid, but she will need to improve her consistency.
She goes up against Irina-Camelia Begu. This is the Romanian’s first appearance of the season after a spell out of action. The 35-year-old, who reached a high of 22 in the world ten years ago, is now down at 182.
She will be short of match fitness for her comeback match, and that is likely to play into the hands of Siegemund, who also leads the head-to-head 4-1 and 2-1 on clay. She will look to frustrate Begu with her array of shots in round one.
